Thursday Thoughts - Who’s The Boss?

Colossians 3:23 Work willingly at whatever you do as though you were working for the lord rather than for people. NLT

It was a good idea that helped people all over the country. Rodney had a pretty incredible lightbulb moment when he came up with a plan to encourage teenagers to reach out to their communities, the only thing participants needed to do was mow 50 lawns.  There were personal benefits that included the gratitude of the people they helped. Everyone who participated got a shirt, but even more they were able to help cancer survivors veterans, single parents, and people with disabilities. It was a grassroots push that moved young people from their bedrooms and gaming chairs into the great outdoors where they would interact with others. Thousands of teens participated. They mowed and along the way something within them changed. What started as a challenge became transformational.

Motivation can be hard to find. You need a good reason to do something and you usually can’t seem to find it. But God says you should be motivated to do good things because when you do good, it’s like doing it for Him-even when you can’t find any other reason for your good actions.

This is true at home school and work. You get to show how talented and helpful God made you while completing each assignment for Him.

Find another dose of freedom in knowing that no matter who you’re working for at any given moment, God is your employer. He welcomes you to the job site and pays attention to your work ethic, faithfulness, and attitude.

Your motivation doesn’t have to be for a raise, to impress someone, or to prove you’re better than another coworker. If it’s work you’re doing then consider God your boss. That should absolutely change your motivation. It can change what you do, how you do it, and how well you get it done.

Face it, motivation is hard to discover. When you’re asked to do something, it can seem much easier to do just enough to get by instead of your absolute best. Maybe that’s why God wants you to understand that no matter what you do, you will do your best when you know who you’re actually working for.
